If you think about it, our generation is very fortunate to have talented musical artists. Bruno Mars knows how to bring in the big band (with “Uptown Funk” as his Exhibit A). No one’s vocals and power of soul can top that of John Legend like that in “All of Me.” And let’s not forget Justin Timberlake who made one of the biggest comebacks back in 2013, bringing in his own smooth and classy-pop style to all of our tunes.
But what happens if you combine all of these styles into one artist? Nathan Sykes happens.
But who is Nathan Sykes?

Nathan Sykes was originally the youngest band member from the Wanted, one of the biggest boybands from the UK second to One Direction. But ever since the band members split in January of 2014, Nathan Sykes decided to debut as a solo artist for the first time!
His first single “Kiss Me Quick,” starts off with a big sound as you hear the trumpets play and see the decibel meters rise with the tune. Instantly, listeners are introduced to Nathan Sykes, who presents himself as a classy yet charismatic person in the video that you’d never predict was just like any other dude searching for love. According to Moxie, Nathan says the reason why he wrote the song was that he was “joking about the fact that [he] couldn’t flirt.”
The energy in the song similar to Bruno’s music style and John Legend’s vocals are not far from home though. According to RollingStone, Sykes grew up listening to big band and swing from his mother, who was a music teacher, and Motown and R&B from his father. And, of course, Sykes had to keep his inner pop while making this album, stating that “it was important to keep the album as a pop album while bringing in elements like sould and jazz and R&B as well.”
What makes Nathan Sykes so special is that he creatively balances all of the styles of Bruno Mars, John Legend and Justin Timberlake to produce his own sound. Need the proof? Watch the clip below to see it for yourself!

Did you see how he introduced the bands and the trumpets like Bruno Mars in the chorus? How about at the prechorus where you can feel the transition in the tune like Justin Timberlake was going to come in? Don’t forget that falsetto pulled at the end of the bridge! It’s just as legendary as John Legend!
Can’t wait for more Nathan Sykes? Well, get psyched because his album will be released later this year!
